Psalm 94
1 O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth;
O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.
2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth:
render a reward to the proud.
3 Lord, how long shall the wicked,
how long shall the wicked triumph?
4 How long shall they utter and speak hard things?
and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
5 They break in pieces thy people, O Lord,
and afflict thine heritage.
6 They slay the widow and the stranger,
and murder the fatherless.
7 Yet they say, The Lord shall not see,
neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.
8 Understand, ye brutish among the people:
and ye fools, when will ye be wise?
9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear?
he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
10 He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct?
he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man,
that they are vanity.
12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord,
and teachest him out of thy law;
13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity,
until the pit be digged for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not cast off his people,
neither will he forsake his inheritance.
15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness:
and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers?
or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
17 Unless the Lord had been my help,
my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
18 When I said, My foot slippeth;
thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.
19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me
thy comforts delight my soul.
20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee,
which frameth mischief by a law?
21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous,
and condemn the innocent blood.
22 But the Lord is my defence;
and my God is the rock of my refuge.
23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity,
and shall cut them off in their own wickedness;
yea, the Lord our God shall cut them off.
America has chosen to place its faith in idols.
Men. Politics. Voting.
The “Christian Right”, as well as the GOP, has played political pragmatism over principle, choosing the world’s “wisdom” over God’s, and is now reaping the whirlwind.
The GOP as we know it is dead. The “Christian Right” is dead as a viable political force. Unless.
While it is easy to look externally and point the finger at unbelievers for being in the place we now find ourself, to do this is delusion.
It is the church’s duty to light the way for society, not to try to control it or to get its way at the polls.
Eternal transformation cannot come through politics.
The lie that societal and personal transformation can come through politics, elections, governments, and coercion is straight out of Satan’s playbook, and it is time to stop falling for it.
This is Godless, totalitarian Marxist ideology at its finest.
I hope you read that closely. I believe in the applicability of God’s Law today. This is called Theonomy. Reactionaries take this to mean that I want to violently enforce a Christian Theocracy, forcing it on unbelievers. Nothing could be further from the truth.
My utopian vision is of an inwardly transformed society that has God’s Law written on its heart; one that voluntarily abides by the guidelines given us for productive, peaceful, free lives in the universe He created. It is still utopian, however, differing from other utopian fantasies only in that I rely on God to make this a reality in his timing. All other utopian fantasies rely on man for their culmination.
My message to my fellow Christians is simple.
While I do not condemn anyone for being politically active, politics is not the means by which the Church is to impact the world. Quit putting your faith in politics.
Quit bemoaning the “loss” of a man who tried to be president. Quit trying to portray him as a fallen hero. He is not. He was never one iota different than Obama, and you know it.
Quit acting like Obama is omnipotent.
He cannot even put on his socks without the Lord’s say-so.
He, and every other man, is a noseful of breath; nothing more. Each one of us could injest a single-celled organism today and be dead tomorrow. We live (and die) at God’s pleasure and according to his will.
