2 Fort Worth men sentenced for role in attempted rifle smuggling
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]FORT WORTH -- Two Fort Worth men were sentenced to federal prison Friday for buying assault rifles that were to be smuggled into Mexico for use by the violent Los Zetas gang.
Eliseo Valverde Jr., 21, and Jayson Beltram, 21, pleaded guilty May 13 to a charge of conspiracy to make false statements in the purchase of firearms, punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
On Friday morning, U.S. District Judge John McBryde sentenced Valverde to five years in prison and three years of supervised release. Beltram received four years' incarceration and three years of supervised release.
